10 juin, la journée mondiale de l'Art Nouveau

Since 2013, June 10 has become World Art Nouveau Day.

I learned that each year, we celebrate a different part of this art, in 2022 it is typography that is in the spotlight.

Art Nouveau which developed during the Belle Epoque, before 1900, by widely distributing posters, created a style of typography of the arrangement of letters.

Art Nouveau posters advertised everything from salad oil to theater performances and typography was an integral part of poster design, with its typical characteristics of flourishing ornaments.

The typography often contained elongated, embellished letters that were feminine in nature.

The Art Nouveau style being inspired by the curved lines of organic forms found in nature, was very different from the more common geometric typefaces.
